Fe, a young Latina woman, struggles through life as she deals with the economic insecurities of her family and bringing another member into it.

Fe is young, intelligent and ready to work her way up. Though she lost her parents to a car accident at an early age, her grandfather took her under his wing, teaching her how to earn her way through hard work. She later used those skills to gain favor with her current mentor, Angela Torres Marshal. As Angel’s protégé, Fe has gained insight into the workings of the wealthy and how to build self-value through education. Fe is well on her way to being the next big thing relative to where her family but would throw it all away for her first love, Julian. He fills the void of love that her parents left and it’s his unwavering support that has kept her happy through thick and thin.

Julian never quite fit in with anyone or anything. Always the outsider, his life took a change for the better when he found music and discovered Fe. However, as Julian moves from low-level job to even lower level job, namely fast-food venues, he realizes that his opportunity for any modicum of success slips away with each passing day. To make matters worse, his family is pushing him toward earning a real living at the cost of dropping his dream of being a musician. His frustrations have put a strain on he and Fe’s relationship.

Angela is success. As a Latina of modest means, Angela built herself into a successful businesswoman whom fostered multiple startups earning the reputation of an insurmountable tenacity. Unable to bear children of her own, Angela dedicates her life to and makes a living from a non-profit meant to inspire the pursuit of an advanced education in Latino youth by providing financial incentive. However, age has numbed satisfaction, and multiple husbands have left her at a loss for love. Angela yearns for a child of her own to shape in her image. For now, Fe will have to do as a surrogate.

Jaime (pronounced: Hi-may), Fe’s grandfather, earned his American citizenship at the age of twenty-one after an arduous trek across the Mexican border into Texas and then as a cook in WWII. His tireless efforts over the next sixty some odd years left him with a house to raise his family in and a foundation from which they could grow. Yet, in his golden years there is no sense of satisfaction, only the sour taste of what still needs doing. Jaime lives to see Fe flourish where he failed. He lives to see his seed bloom and take her place in the American Dream.
